Thanksgiving '08
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year, and this year was no exception. We typically go to a friend's house in Salt Lake, since she and her husband always host a potluck dinner for the their family-less ski bum friends (i.e. us, since our families are 3000 miles away). She cooks a turkey and the traditional sides including potatoes and stuffing, and the rest of us bring desserts / apps / sides / beverages.
This year I went all out, making peanut butter balls (aka dingleberries), ginger roasted beets, and cinnamon rolls. The rolls, by the way, were from scratch and I had to stay up until 2am to keep punching down the dough as it rose...yep, for all you skeptics, Kimber CAN occasionally be domestic, and actually HAS some domestic skills!!! They were whole wheat and turned out great. Shocking, I know. :) I wish I'd taken a photo of them so you won't think I'm lying! Oh well. Cest la vie.
The dogs were thankful for the holiday too. (Sorry if it grosses you out, but we let the dogs lick out the cooking dishes after use and before dishwasher - they get washed after and it makes them happy!) Jean Luc got to lick out the cinnamon roll dough dish:
The bowl was so light and his licking so vigorous that Brad had to prop his foot behind it to keep it steady:
Lucy, our friend's dog that we kept while they were gone for the holidays wasn't left out either:
There was so much food! Again, I forgot my camera for the feast itself, but with 18 people bringing food, the turkey was barely touched! So delicious....
My little sister, Jeanette, flew out from California to visit. I say "little" but should say "younger" instead since she's taller, but as the oldest I get to call her whatever I want. :D She's currently getting her master's degree from UC Davis in forensics (yes, she's super smart!):
She helped us put up and decorate the tree, since I'll be gone for most of the holidays and we wanted to grab the chance to get decorated. We tried to get the dogs into the spirit of things, but as you can see they weren't feeling the love.
Jean Luc, frozen, not even his eyebrows twitching, wouldn't turn to look at me:
Lucy, wow, look at her eyes:
Anyway, I ate so much that i felt sick, and kept going back, what, 3? 4? 5 times? for more. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Yep, my favorite holiday.
