Bike repairs...done by ME!!! :)
I'm so excited to be working at the bike shop! Last night, after working for a couple hours organizing inventory and figuring out better layouts and so on, we closed the shop and hung out for another hour and a half working on our bikes. Now, I know next to nothing about bike repair, and usually had to depend on friends or bike shops to fix things for me. Not for long....
Last night was my first lesson. My big squish bike needed a tune up to get ready for the bike season, and of course for our Moab trip next weekend (YAY!!!), so Kane, the manager, got me started while he worked on a shop bike, and while Chad (a shop mechanic) worked on his personal bike as well.
First, learned how to properly clean the bike, then the best part: trueing my wheels! I've never trued a wheel before, so that was awesome. Constantly tacoing my wheels in races, so knowing how to true a wheel is crucial! And it wasn't nearly as hard as I'd thought; it was actually fun!
Followed by learning how to adjust my derailleurs, check my chain, clean my cassette, adjust brakes, adjust the rear shock and rebound, etc. It was quite a thorough lesson, and I learned a lot, now let's see how much I remember! I've only worked there 3 days so far, and am learning heaps. It'll be a fun summer!
We still need to lube the chain, and put some oil in my front shock to slow it down, and replace a couple loose plugs in the brake system, but otherwise it's pretty much ready to go! Can't wait........6 days.......mmmmmmm.......yummy.......Moab........
