Flooding

This is from June, but it was crazy and I just found these pics on my phone.

The spring melt came very late this year, so all of the reservoirs were getting low. The flow was cut off, and they filled back up....and then the spring melt hit hard and fast. For a couple days there were houses washing away by the Weber River, and I, unaware at first, came upon this during my commute to work:

You can see the top of the fence poking out of the water - this is a full fledged field most of the time!

I was an unsafe driver after that using my phone to take pictures.

The freeway was dry, but not much of the land on either side was.

Some of the pictures came out a little.....weird from the driving.

Waters like this haven't been seen in generations. They receded after a few days, and were mostly gone after a week, but they're still doing cleanup and recovery.

This is why we aren't supposed to build in the floodplain people!

  1. I remember this; I drive this stretch every once in a while to get to East Canyon Res.
