Golf
County golf day came this year, and Promontory (a high-end course) made the course available to a certain number of county employees. On a whim, I signed Brad and I up. I figured it would be so popular, since the course is private and member only, that we wouldn't make it in, but....we did.
I was super nervous, since the last time I played I was 17. Not only that, but I have played a total of three, yes three, times, ever, and the last time got kicked off the course for goofing off in the golf cart. Reckless driving...
What can I say? I was 17! That explains everything.
So, back to golf day.
Before the game, Brad and I went to the public course to practice driving.
Um.
Golf is apparently not a game that comes to me naturally!
The other two county folks that we were to be teamed with ended up bailing (sick) so it was just Brad and I. Phew! Less embarrassment...
The format of the game was a scramble, meaning that all the players play off the farthest ball, no matter who drove it. Phew! Most of the time, we ended up using Brad's drive, but once in a while his would go into the desert and we'd use mine. I relished those moments, but they were few. As you can see above, Brad looks pretty good when he drives.
I look, um, awkward? Uncomfortable? Like I'm trying to play baseball?
I spent a lot of time admiring him play actually. I had no idea, since he hasn't played once since we met. I had no idea golf could be kind of sexy...
Admire:
Don't get me wrong, he didn't get off TOO easily....I did tease him about actually owning golf shoes and a glove...
I did perform decently at putting, thanks to the many years of mini-golf I played in Alaska. Anyone remember that cool course by the Anchorage zoo? Where we put-putted through the oil pipeline and into mine shafts? The one with the life-size chess game too?
This is anticlimactic, but our favorite shot was this one...Brad overshot the turn in the fairway, hit the cart path, and bounced up onto the road. On our way out, we saw it, and he ran to retrieve it.
All in all, it was a fun time, and we may go play again. I'll never be a Tiger though...it's pretty funny to see me play I'm sure!
Oh, I will admit, I just HAD to take the chance to drive under the influence and yes, did operate the cart when a wee bit tipsy. (I was hoping it would help me play better, kind of like how I'm a better pool player...)
