TWENTIES!!!
Finally, after training hard all summer and, frankly, wondering if it would pay off, my third run tonight saw me pushing into the 20s for the first time: 5.29! I jumped up and down and screamed in the parking lot when I saw the timesheet:
The best part is that I usually push faster in the races, and tonight was just training so I wasn't really trying to push that fast...hopefully I've got more in the gas tank in the first Park City race tomorrow. (The start time is measured for the first 50 meters of the track, and is vital to your finish time since it's a gravity sport, and you can never earn back any time lost on the start.)
As a whole, back home in Park City sliding has been going really well for me; I'm finally remembering how I felt on my sled towards the end of last season. Thank goodness - the way I was sliding in Placid had me really worried I'd somehow regressed into a beginner again.
As you can see on today's timesheet, below, I'm doing alright, coming out in 5th or 6th among the women; I did a hair better yesterday (was slower than today, but was more competitive among the women). Phew! The ranking on the right after each run includes the guys, so the numbers are pretty high, and keep in mind that this is page 1 of 2 so when it shows me as being 18th my slower second run, I wasn't 18th of 18 but 18th of about 24 or 25, including the boys. But anyway, here are the results if you can read them:
Tomorrow is the first race in Park City, which will be the third of the four Team Trials races, so wish me luck!
