SLED!!!
No, I don't have pictures yet, but just wanted you all to know that I just bought a skeleton sled! Well, sort of, I still owe quite a bit on it, but it'll be paid off by next month.
Paid off, you ask, why just how much IS a sled? Can't you just get a cookie sheet and slide on that? (wink)
Nope, I reply, a new skeleton sled is expensive. For a brand new sled, one that is not the best quality but is good race quality, you would have to spend around $3500! Shocking, isn't it. That piece of metal and padding that seems so small when sliding at 75 mph on a track is so pricey. Partially due to the materials, some of the metals are acquired directly from NASA or the Air Force, I can't remember which, but it's a special alloy of some sort.
Anyway, due to some crazy circumstances around the guy selling it, I bought this barely used sled for $2500 last night! Awesome. And by barely used, I mean he took it down the track only 10-15 times total, and it was built for him just last summer. It's pretty much exactly the sled I would buy were I to have a sled built for me. The builder, Parker, is also going to help me by adjusting the saddle so that it is fit exactly to my ribs and hibs, with handles just where I want them.
Yay! I'm so giddy with excitement. My sled. Sweet.
