First anniversary!

Today is our one year anniversary - one year ago today was the fateful evening when I went to the Salt Lake Airport to pick up a man I'd found via online dating, good old Match.com, Brad Stewart.

So nervous I was! We'd been chatting online for a week or so, and he was flying in from Minnesota from a friend's wedding. We spoke on the phone for the first time that day (September 15, 2004), and made plans for him to come to Provo after getting back to Park City, where he lived. We were going to go to dinner there. But, he ran into some problems - his flight from MN to to Las Vegas was delayed, and so he missed his connecting flight to SLC!

He could have just called me and postponed the date the next day, but instead he called and mentioned that there was a seat on another flight that he might try to get on, I assumed he meant standby for his pre-paid ticket. Nope, I found out three or four or more months later that he'd spent $300 to buy the last seat on a Delta flight, in first class since that was the only option, all because the next Southwest flight (the one he'd paid for and missed) wouldn't get him in until 11:00pm, and that would be too late to meet me! (I was flattered, and shocked, when found out.)

So, since he was still getting in a bit later and wouldn't be able to make our date at the original time, so I offered to pick him up at the airport and give him a ride to Park City, and that we could go to dinner there instead of Provo. (He was originally going to take the shuttle to Park City, change, and drive to Provo.) I had it set up for Maija (my roommate) to call me halfway through the date in case Brad turned out to be a psycho, but all went well. Except for the five minutes at the airport when I somehow lost my car keys in between hugging him hello and putting his stuff in the car. Sigh. Eventually found them in between the car seats - I was mortified. Brad thought it was endearing. Go figure.

So, dinner at Cicero's in Park City, decent conversation though I can't remember now what we talked about. Oh yeah, a bit about how he looked like a clean cut Mormon boy with his nice shirt and slacks for the flight - he was embarassed but I thought he was cute. (Incidently, since that date, I hadn't seen him dressed up like that until his brother's wedding last weekend!)

The next night, my friend Matt broke his collarbone on a bike ride in Payson, and I took him to the hospital, then needed to figure out a way to go get my car from Payson (half hour away) since I'd driven Matt in his car and he was in no shape to drive. And was stuck at the hospital for a while. So, inspiration strikes, and I call Brad (excuse to see him, I know) and ask if he'd be willing to drive a lot for me.....he drove from Park City to pick me up and take me to Payson, then followed me back to the hospital, then helped me get Matt to my house (too far to get him home, he was already almost passed out). Then he (Brad) hung with me until the wee hours of the morning. First kiss that night...

Can't believe it's been a year! We aren't really celebrating today, since I'm working and have to work tomorrow morning so late night fun is out, but tomorrow we're going to have a nice dinner, go to a show in Salt Lake, then sleep in Saturday, followed by purchasing a present for ourselves (a bike repair stand), and getting massages. Yummy!
